This is how the Mossos accessed one of the main hashish plantations in Catalonia.

The Mossos d’Esquadra arrested seven men on October 1, whose ages range from 29 to 55 years, allegedly linked to an organization dedicated to the trafficking of illegal substances, according to reports from judicial sources. Currently, the police force has provided the complete balance of this operation, which is considered one of the most significant of the year in that Autonomous Community.

The intervention took place in an industrial warehouse located in Cabanes (Alt Empordà), where agents managed to seize 8,025 kilograms of hashish. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the drug group of the DIC of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, which identified a warehouse that was exclusively intended for the storage and distribution of narcotics.

Subsequently, the agents determined that the drugs found in the vehicle originated from an industrial warehouse located in Cabanes (Alt Empordà). Surveillance efforts established in the area allowed for the detection of unusual activities around the warehouse: several individuals and vehicles were identified accessing occasionally, but no evident business or labor activity was observed. Movements that appeared to be loading and unloading operations were also noted.

At the beginning of October, during a surveillance operation, the agents observed activity different from what had been noted until that moment: repeated movements of people and vans were recorded, as well as the arrival of an articulated truck. Additionally, it was observed that several individuals were manipulating the original license plates of the vehicles, replacing them with others using zip ties, apparently to hinder their identification. They subsequently brought the trailer inside the warehouse and closed the door.

In light of these events and the evidence they had already collected, the investigators, with the support of agents from the ARRO of Girona, decided to expedite the intervention, accessing the property and finding seven individuals unloading pallets from the trailer with the intention of distributing the hashish into different vans for subsequent delivery.

The inspection of the cargo confirmed that the pallets contained hashish camouflaged among the merchandise. The drugs were found inside large raffia sacks loaded with rubber crumbs, a method used to hinder detection in police or customs controls. In total, the agents seized 8 tons of hashish, a figure that represents a significant portion of all the drugs of this type that the Mossos d’Esquadra have confiscated during the year 2026, as nearly 14,900 kilograms had been seized up to October 1.

Due to the volume of drugs seized, this operation ranks among the most relevant for the Mossos d’Esquadra. In fact, the management of the considerable amount of hashish seized also required the activation of personnel from the DIC of Girona. The value of the substance confiscated in this operation exceeds 16.2 million euros in the black market.

The inspection of the warehouse confirmed the investigators' suspicions regarding its exclusively criminal use, functioning as a logistical infrastructure for drug trafficking. The property had an almost open design and lacked any elements that could indicate the performance of a business or residential activity. Furthermore, during the search, agents found a firearm in one of the vans belonging to the detainees.

The seven men arrested were placed at the disposal of Plaza 6 of the Civil and Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance of Figueres. The investigation remains open, and new arrests or actions related to these events are not ruled out.
