670,000 euros in cash seized from a group of drug traffickers in Vigo

In June 2025, the Drug and Organized Crime Unit (Udyco) of the National Police at the Vigo Police Station managed to dismantle a criminal network that implemented an unusual modus operandi: hiding illicit substances, such as cocaine and hashish, in vehicles parked at the main hospitals in the city. As part of a new investigation conducted by the same team, this criminal organization has suffered another setback due to similar events, with a significant detail: the seizure of more than 600,000 euros in cash. However, the two individuals convicted for the events of 2025 have not been arrested this time.

In the context of the recent investigation, the National Police forces have arrested six people as part of an operation against drug trafficking carried out in the towns of Vigo and Ponteareas.

The operation involved collaboration from agents of the Local Citizen Security Brigade, who provided support during the arrests and searches conducted.

The investigation began when Udyco members detected the existence of an organization dedicated to distributing large quantities of cocaine and hashish in the metropolitan area of Vigo, clearly related to the group dismantled a year earlier that operated near the hospitals.

Investigations allowed agents to identify the alleged leader of the network, a man residing in the town of Ponteareas, from where he supposedly directed and coordinated the distribution activities of the narcotic substances.

Throughout the investigation process, agents determined that there was an organized distribution structure at multiple levels. The main suspect provided significant amounts of drugs to a series of regular buyers, who, in turn, supplied other lower-tier distributors, ultimately reaching the sellers responsible for retailing.

During the night of October 6, agents observed an exchange between the main suspect and several buyers in an open area in Vigo, to which they had traveled in their respective vehicles.

After leaving the location, the buyers' vehicle was intercepted by agents, who found 15 kilograms of hashish and one kilogram of cocaine inside. Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested, and the car they were driving was seized.

Minutes later, investigators saw another regular buyer arriving at the same open area, meeting with the main suspect, and conducting a second exchange.

This second buyer's vehicle was also stopped, with agents locating 300 grams of hashish and 21,000 euros in cash inside, which led to the arrest of the buyer and the seizure of his vehicle.

Following these actions, agents established a surveillance operation near the main suspect's home, located in Ponteareas, with the aim of proceeding with his arrest.

Around three in the morning on October 7, investigators observed two vehicles leaving the residence and proceeded to intercept both.

One of the vehicles contained the main suspect, while the second was driven by his sister-in-law. During the inspection of the latter vehicle, agents found 88,000 euros in cash, distributed in vacuum-sealed packages, a system that was allegedly used to facilitate its concealment and transport. Both were arrested.

Later, on the afternoon of October 7, two home searches were carried out, one at the main suspect's residence in Ponteareas and another at a property located in the Vigo neighborhood of A Salgueira, related to another member of the organization.

During the search of the residence in Ponteareas, agents found 69 cartridges of 9 mm Parabellum ammunition, as well as a machete and a vacuum-sealing machine, which was allegedly used to package the money. Additionally, 27,000 euros in cash were seized, distributed in various locations within the home, along with a motorcycle.

The most significant economic operation took place in a rented garage space, where investigators located a vehicle registered in the name of the main suspect.

During the inspection of this car, agents discovered approximately 530,000 euros in cash, hidden inside and distributed in vacuum-sealed packages. Simultaneously, agents conducted a search at the home of another detainee, located in the A Salgueira neighborhood in Vigo.

During the home search, the suspect was arrested, and four kilograms of hashish, six grams of MDMA, a 7.65 mm caliber pistol loaded with three cartridges, a katana, precision scales, and 2,500 euros in cash, as well as a motorcycle, were found.

The operation has resulted in the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of significant amounts of narcotic substances, cash, weapons, ammunition, and vehicles.

Among the seized items, nearly 670,000 euros in cash, more than 19 kilograms of hashish, one kilogram of cocaine, a loaded handgun, 69 cartridges of 9 mm Parabellum caliber, and high-end vehicles stand out.

With this action, the National Police have managed to dismantle an organization dedicated to the supply and distribution of cocaine and hashish in the metropolitan area of Vigo, acting on different levels of the distribution chain, from the main supplier to the intermediaries responsible for supplying retail points.

All those arrested, accused, among other crimes, of belonging to a criminal organization, drug trafficking, and money laundering, have been placed at the disposal of judicial authorities on the morning of this Friday.
