International police collaboration has put an end to nearly thirty years of impunity for a criminal. Agents of the National Police of Colombia have captured an elusive criminal known by the alias 'The Dismemberer' in the department of Antioquia. A search and capture order had been issued against the detainee by Interpol at the request of French authorities, who sought him for his alleged involvement in the violent murder and subsequent dismemberment of his ex-partner, a crime committed in 1995.

The operation that led to his arrest took place in the municipality of La Pintada. Intelligence efforts allowed for the location of the fugitive's hideout, who reportedly resided in a discreet house with white facades and a red roof, isolated and surrounded by dense vegetation that hindered surveillance.

To evade law enforcement for so many years, the individual not only used a false identity but had allegedly gone to the extent of altering his fingerprints to obstruct biometric identification systems.

In addition to the homicide that initiated his initial search in France, investigators indicate that 'The Dismemberer' may have taken advantage of his extensive time in hiding to establish himself in the realm of crime.

Currently, he is facing accusations for his possible direct links to drug trafficking networks and transnational organized crime organizations, reportedly operating as a criminal link between Latin America and Europe. His capture represents a milestone in the hunt for historical fugitives and reaffirms the effectiveness of Interpol's red notices to tighten the noose on highly dangerous fugitives, with borders posing no obstacle.
