Fifty kilos of hashish seized after a chase in southern Turin.

The northern routes of Italy remain a fundamental logistical point for the overland transport of significant quantities of drugs. In a notable operation coordinated by the Provincial Command of Turin, the Carabinieri from the Nichelino station managed to seize nearly half a ton of hashish following a dangerous chase in which the suspect attempted to evade the police cordon at high speed.

The operation began routinely during a road check established on Via Scarrone, in the municipality of Nichelino. The agents noticed suspicious maneuvers by the driver of a vehicle and identified a clear physical anomaly: the rear shock absorbers of the car were severely overloaded, almost touching the chassis due to the weight of large, bulky bags piled on the back seats. When they signaled for a formal inspection, the individual ignored the orders and accelerated towards Turin.

Upon proceeding to search the car and the trunk, the agents discovered numerous bags filled with vacuum-sealed packages. The counting and examination of the cargo at the police station confirmed the finding of 425 kilograms of hashish. Dozens of pressed tablets of brown substance, meticulously sealed in transparent plastic wrappers and identified with handwritten codes, were seized.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from Turin who did not possess a valid driver's license and had an extensive criminal record, was immediately arrested on charges of possession of narcotics for trafficking purposes.

By order of the Judicial Authority, the detainee has been admitted to the Lorusso e Cutugno prison in Turin, while the authorities conduct an investigation into the origin of the drugs and the distribution network that may be operating in the Piedmont region.
