The Federal Police of Brazil continues its fight against drug trafficking, focusing particularly on the identification and dismantling of routes leading to Europe. In this context, agents carried out a significant operation in the state of Maranhão, which has direct access to the Atlantic, in the northern part of the country.
During this operation, the PF confiscated nearly 1.25 tons of cocaine during an intervention that took place on Monday, October 19, at a property located in the rural area of the municipality of Chapadinha. This action resulted in the arrest of three individuals who were caught in the act and are suspected of participating in international drug trafficking.
During the operation, numerous bales were found in the back of a vehicle, as well as other packages hidden in an underground hideout within the property. The investigation will determine the possible origin and transport route of the illicit substance.
Indications suggest that, according to the model of the seized bales, the cocaine originates from Bolivia and was introduced into the country via an aircraft. Furthermore, the same evidence suggests that its most likely destination is the European continent, considering that the storage location is situated near traditional routes to the East.
The three suspects were taken to the Federal Police unit to carry out the necessary legal procedures. Investigations are ongoing in order to clarify the circumstances surrounding the crime and to identify any other individuals who may be involved.
