The Regional House of Ceuta in Melilla traveled to the autonomous city of Ceuta to participate in the events organized in honor of San Daniel, the Patron Saint of the city. The celebration, presided over by the President of the Autonomous City of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, brought together numerous faithful, representatives of Ceuta's brotherhoods and guilds, as well as members of various institutions and entities linked to the traditions and culture of the city.

The Melilla delegation was led by the President of the Regional House, Ramón de la Cruz, who was accompanied by the Vice President, a member of the entity, and the 2026 Queen of the Regional House of Ceuta in Melilla. They all attended the Main Function held on the occasion of the Patron's feast, reaffirming the entity's commitment to the traditions of Ceuta and one of the city's most significant celebrations.

During the day, the President of the Regional House and the members of its Board of Directors had the opportunity to greet and converse with the President of the Autonomous City of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas; the Counselor of the Presidency and Governance, Alberto Gaitán; and the Counselor of Urbanism and Transport, Rafael M. Peñalver. They also had the chance to greet the deputy of the VOX Parliamentary Group in the Ceuta Assembly, Juan Sergio Redondo.

The mass in honor of San Daniel was officiated by the General Vicar of Ceuta, Francisco Jesús Fernández, on a day marked by devotion and respect for the Patron Saint of the city.

During the celebration, Ramón de la Cruz wore the coat of arms of Ceuta with a palm on the lapel of his jacket, a characteristic insignia of the Brotherhood of San Daniel and Companions Martyrs. This symbol, present in Christian iconography, traditionally represents the martyrdom and spiritual victory of those who gave their lives for their faith.

Its meaning is related to the Christian tradition, which associates the palm with life, victory, and sacrifice. Thus, it constitutes a traditional attribute in representations of the early saints of the Church and martyrs.

The insignia was presented to Ramón de la Cruz in 2022 by the then-elder brother of the Venerable Brotherhood of San Daniel and Companions Martyrs, Juan Carlos Rodríguez, coinciding with the commemoration of the 795th anniversary of the martyrdom of San Daniel and his companions.

One of the most emotional moments of the day took place at the Church of Our Lady of Africa, where the delegation of the Regional House of Ceuta in Melilla made a floral offering to San Daniel.

On behalf of the entity and all its members, the President of the House, Ramón de la Cruz, and the Queen of the Regional House of Ceuta in Melilla 2026, Valeria Fernández, presented a beautiful basket of flowers as a sign of devotion, respect, and affection towards the Patron of Ceuta. By decision of the Board of Government of the Brotherhood, the flowers were placed at the feet of the image of San Daniel, symbolizing unity and brotherhood among the participating institutions.

The offering, simple and emotional, conveyed the feelings of all the members of the Regional House, who wanted to be present on such a significant date for the city of Ceuta and share with the people of Ceuta a celebration deeply rooted in their history and traditions.

Alongside the Regional House of Ceuta in Melilla, its counterpart from Algeciras also participated. The presence of both entities highlighted the close ties that unite the different regional houses and their joint efforts in favor of preserving and disseminating Ceuta's customs.

The President of the entity in the sister city of Melilla, Ramón de la Cruz, took the opportunity to personally thank the Commissioner and Elder Brother of the Brotherhood of San Daniel, Juan Antonio Ponferrada, as well as the members of his Board of Government, for the invitation extended to the Regional House to participate in the commemorative events.

De la Cruz expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome received and encouraged Ponferrada and his team to continue working to enhance and promote the celebrations in honor of the Patron of Ceuta. He also emphasized the importance of keeping alive a tradition that is part of the identity and cultural and religious heritage of the city.

The President underscored that this year, more than ever, it was important to accompany San Daniel and show the support and solidarity of the Regional House of Ceuta in Melilla with the people of Ceuta, especially in light of the difficult circumstances recently experienced.

He also conveyed his support to the Venerable Brotherhood of San Daniel and Companions Martyrs, emphasizing the need to continue defending and preserving the traditions that are part of the history and identity of Ceuta.

Ramón de la Cruz reiterated his gratitude for the invitation and for the opportunity to share such an emotional day. Furthermore, he made both the Regional House and himself available, in a personal capacity, to collaborate on all initiatives that contribute to the development of their work. Finally, he wished them the greatest success in this new stage at the helm of the corporation.

At the end of the events, the commissioner and elder brother of the Venerable Brotherhood of San Daniel, Juan Antonio Ponferrada, accompanied by the members of his Governing Board, wanted to express a gesture of recognition to the two regional houses of Ceuta that participated in this very special day.

As a token of appreciation for their presence and collaboration, a commemorative plaque was presented to each of the participating entities. In the case of the Regional House of Ceuta in Melilla, the presentation was made by the president of the Autonomous City of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, who personally delivered this recognition to Ramón de la Cruz.

During the presentation, Vivas dedicated some heartfelt words to the Melilla entity, highlighting its work and the enthusiasm with which it operates to defend the name of Ceuta and to give visibility to its traditions, history, and cultural heritage.

The commemorative plaque features the image of San Daniel, Patron of Ceuta, along with a legend of gratitude to the Regional House of Ceuta in Melilla for its participation in the Main Function and in the processional outing of San Daniel.

This recognition represents a gesture of closeness and gratitude towards an entity that, from Melilla, keeps its commitment to Ceuta alive and contributes to spreading its most representative customs and traditions.

With its presence at the events in honor of San Daniel, the Regional House of Ceuta in Melilla reaffirms its commitment to the city, its traditions, and its most emblematic celebrations.

Participation in this day not only represents a show of devotion and respect towards the Patron of Ceuta but also an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of unity between the two sister cities and among the entities that work daily to keep alive the feeling of belonging to the land of Ceuta.

A visit marked by fraternity, mutual recognition, and the shared desire to preserve and transmit to new generations the historical, cultural, and religious legacy of Ceuta.
